Protests Are Becoming Part of the Routine
Today, I watched in amazement as thousands of Americans descended on Capitol Hill. Why was it so incredible?
The call for the rally only happened last Friday.
I remember seeing the email announcing it and thinking, “That’ll be a good event. Maybe a few hundred people from Maryland and Virginia will show up.”
I’m happy to say that I was wrong.
Around 10,000 people showed up. And they were angry. Boy are they angry.
They weren’t crazy or neurotic (like previous posts show protesters on the left to be), but average families, blue collar workers and senior citizens. While listening to the speeches, I overheard two older ladies from Pittsburgh discuss how they would tirelessly work to ensure a 2010 defeat of whoever votes for the healthcare bill in PA. I nearly felt sorry for PA politicians. The attitude and conviction of those two little old ladies is mimicked over and over again by people throughout the country.
While the thought of government healthcare scares the *@#! out of me, it’s amazing to see democracy in action.
Whoever votes for this bill should be afraid. Very afraid. The sheer arrogance of the left for ramming this down our throats continues to shock me. Anyone who can remotely support this bill is an elitist, arrogant imbecile and absolutely out of touch with this country.
As I commented on Facebook earlier, I’m not opposed to health care reform. However it needs to be market-based and deregulated.
My grandfather died because a government-run healthcare system mis-diagnosed his colon cancer for two years as gastric reflux. Why on earth would I want the same government to control what happens between me and my doctor?
This bill has to be stopped. Our country can not afford it and our health can not afford it.
Politico has a surprisingly fair wrap up.
